Loops By Keri hand knits are now available online!

When I started this blog, I said an Etsy site was right around the corner. It took a little while longer to get to that corner, but it is FINALLY up and running!

If you haven't shopped there before, Etsy.com is a website for all things handmade. Each person sets up an online store that you can purchase from.

You can now find my hand knits on Etsy.com at http://www.etsy.com/shop/LoopsbyKeri

Please note, if you go to Etsy directly, the name of the store is LoopsbyKeri, all one word. that's how they do it.

OR - even easier, use the link on the top left of this blog! Easy peasy! The one that looks like this...

Here's a sneak peak at the site!

Once you check out the site, if you like what you see, please favorite my shop! You can favorite any items you love too! Which is great because it gives me feedback as to what people like best!

You can also click the follow button to follow my Etsy site. That way, you'll know what is new in store!

I have a small selection of my hand knits online.  MANY, MANY more to come!!  It takes a bit of time to design and knit them, get some great photos and write it all up, but am working as fast as I can!

I also do custom orders, so if you see something you like but would LOVE it in a different color or something like it, or in a different yarn, please let me know!

Knits make fantastic presents for babies, kids and adults alike! We can make them match coats, favorite color, eye color, whatever! : )

And for my friends that live local- we can get together and plan out the knit by choosing colors and yarns and patterns...like I did recently with my friend L.

Here is her fabulous hand dyed merino wool hat with vintage button on a button band. The color is navy with pops of lilac and deeper purple. (It will look MUCH better on her than on this glass head, but since she wasn't available, it had to do!)

The hat will match her cowl perfectly. I don't have a picture of HER exact cowl, so here are a few LIKE hers...

Loops by Keri hand knits are also available in store at Rexer-Parkes in Huntington NY, located at 35 Gerard Street in Huntington Village.

This year, Rexer-Parkes will be carrying some of my adult accessories as well as children's knits!

I just delivered some incredible new cabled cowls there- take a look! Just pop it over your head and you are good to go!

It will keep you warm, while still looking chic. And for all you Mom's out there, it will stay put, no worries about losing it as you run after your little one, as sometimes happens with scarves!

Stay tuned for lots more knits!

Sew Cool Accessories!

Hello Friends!

The first sewing camp, Sew Cool Accessories, was held last week at Pulitzer & Panetta Creative Studio in Huntington. pulitzerandpanetta.com We had a fun time!

Our project was to make the incredibly cute Keep your Cool Smartphone case from the Straight Stitch Society, designed by the fabulous Liesl Gibson. You can see her amazingness at http://oliverands.com/

First order of business was to learn to thread a needle! Most of our campers had experience sewing, but we started by reviewing a few basic stitches. The running stitch, which is a basic sewing stitch of going up and down. We focused on trying to make the stitches even in length and evenly spaced on our hoops. Then we moved on to backstitch, which as it sounds, you move your needle forward from underneath (back of the fabric) and then when on the top (right side) of the fabric, you go backwards, putting your needle in the previous stitch ends, thereby connecting the stitches. You have a continuous row of stitches. This is a strong stitch, which is useful when strength is called for or for reenforcing corners or seams.

Then came the hard decision! To make an ice pop or the adorable ice cream sandwich. I was sure that ice pops would win, but in the end, most decided to make ice cream sandwiches. I couldn't decide, so I made both!

The project let the girls really express themselves with colors and stitches. They had a lot of fun with it!

The project offered so many learning opportunities. The phone holder is lined with a batting material, which none of the students had worked with before. It is also lined and has an adorable pocket inside, perfect for stashing some money and ID with your phone all in one place. The keychain is an added bonus!

The last step was setting in a snap, which required the use of a craft hammer, which was quite cathartic! We had so much fun with that, I forgot to take pictures!

This was a lot of sewing in a short time, but look at the amazing results! And those smiles! Now the phones can stay safe and the girls have total bragging rights that they made it themselves!

And while I taught them the finer points of pattern reading and lining up notches, I got an education in current pop music. Which was perfect, so I knew which songs I should download onto my new iPhone.

Thanks girls!!

As a bonus, they took a look at some of my knits for Fall I am currently working and pronounced them cool. They will be at Rexer-Parkes come the end of Sept. This fall, we will have more than just knits for babies, but super warm and cozy hats and accessories for children and adults!!

I am also planning on attending the Greenport Maritime Festival and possibly the Huntington Fall Festival. An Etsy store is on the horizon...
Stay Tuned!!

This coming week, August 12th, I am teaching Fantastical Friends at the studio, where kids ages 6 and up can make their own stuffed friends. They can be cute or ferocious! Whatever they come up with! There is still room available if you know a child that might want to join us.

Here are some pics of a penguin being made. Our little camper has a sweet penguin already and wanted to make him a friend! So cute!

Sewing isn't just for girls. Jut this past week, I taught a friend of my son's how to make a stuffed friend and he decided to make a rancor, (you may know it as that big gigantic beast that chases after Luke Skywalker after Jabba the Hut drops him into the pit in the Star Wars series). It was the first time he tried his hand at sewing. Isn't is cool?!

The Cutest Old Fashioned Knitted Baby Romper

Wow! Where did July go? I always think the summer will last forever but then I blink and it's almost August! Yikes!

We have been having lots of fun around here. Play dates, day trips with friends and lots of swimming! And of course, LOTS of knitting. Can't wait to show you what is in the works for fall! Stay tuned!!!

Since the weather here dropped in temp drastically today, I happily reached for a knit to wear around my neck. Have been making some REALLY cozy knits for fall. For today, I felt like blogging about a summer knit, a baby romper.

Knit in a cozy cotton with a hint of elastic fiber for added stretch. They are the perfect item for baby for summer. It is soft, washes beautifully and is cool! I first made these year ago - here is my Little Miss wearing hers. She wore it constantly and got compliments everywhere we went.

Here is a sweet blue and taupe one. It's at Rexer-Parkes right now if someone needs a gift! It is perfect for a 9month- 18 month baby since it's stretches beautifully!

And here is an ivory and navy one. There is a sweet pink and lavender one in store now too in case you are looking for a little girl in your life.

And here is the romper I just gave my niece for her soon to be delivered baby for next summer. His room is a pirate theme, so I took inspiration from there! Isn't is cute? Can't wait to see him sporting it next summer.

There is some yarn and knitting needles calling my name. I'll be back soon.

Organic Sweater Goodness

There is something about special about knitting a sweater for a baby.

Even if I don't know which baby the sweater will end up belonging to  : ) A whole lotta love goes into all of those little stitches.

A sweater is something that a baby will wear year round. A little wind, the sun hides behind the clouds...I always had a sweater with me for my little ones. I still do. And one for me too!

Check out the newest sweater, hot off the needles!

I LOVE the colors.

It works for a boy or for a girl in my book. It is knit from the softest organic cotton that has been handpainted. The cardigan has 4 lovely grey buttons going down the front.

I can't wait for this sweater to have a baby and a momma to love it! It is in store now at Rexer-Parkes, http://rexer-parkes.myshopify.com/ so you can go in or call them and make it yours (or make a new Mommy's day!) If you need a different size or color combo, one can be knit to your needs. Just drop me a line....the needles are always clicking over here.

Here it is on the table at Rexer-Parkes surrounded by yummy cotton ponchos- PERFECT for this weather when it keeps turning chilly! And the sweetest little baby rompers..little one piece numbers that are perfect for spring and summer!

Time to cast on another one...a girl one this time? hmmm. Will keep you posted.

Sweater on!

April Showers Bring Cute New Knits

How adorable are these knitted rainbooties? Wellies! LOVE!

Hand knit by me in yummy cotton with cute details, they are super sweet.

After I made up this pair, I knew I had to make one in rain slicker yellow trimmed with grey, which OF COURSE meant I had to design a rain hat to go with them...

I think they came our pretty awesome.

I can't take credit for the bootie pattern (although I did have the same idea sketched out in my "to make one day" pattern book). But when I saw the pattern by Julie Taylor on Craftsy, I had to buy it to support a fellow knitter, especially since she allows knitters to sell products using her patterns. (Thanks Julie!) Her pattern was in wool, but I changed the yarn to cotton & adjusted the gauge accordingly.

You knitters can buy her pattern on Craftsy.com.

If you are not a knitter, these are are in store now at Rexer-Parkes in Huntington NY. : )   Or you can always contact me and I can make them in custom colors for you. SO MUCH FUN to play with color!

Don't fret if you don't live near Huntington.

Just call Rexer-Parkes and they can ship them right out to you. (631) 549-1810.

I think we need a girlie option...maybe hot pink and lime? hmmm. What do you think? What colors would you like to see?

Sweet little bunnies in need of a good home

I do so LOVE a bunny slipper. Especially with spring and Easter around the corner. Yes, I realize it was snowing today...but I saw a crocus this week, so spring MUST be coming soon. Right? Right!! I do hope so.

I just dropped these off to Rexer-Parkes yesterday, so if you know any sweet little baby feet that need a spring to their step, you've got some options!  Wouldn't they look sweet in an easter basket for baby or for a shower gift.  http://rexer-parkes.myshopify.com/collections/children

I bring you a plethora of bunnies in the softest extra fine merino....

cream with sage ears

 cream with pink ears

cream with baby blue ears

...and these awesome cashmere and merino blend in hot pink with lime ears, perfect for a little spring baby girl!

So cute, they make me almost wish I had a little baby to put them on.

Keyword in there is ALMOST. ;)

Luckily, I have lots of little friends with babies to try them on, so I can get my baby bunny bootie fix!

For you knitters out there, you can make a bunny out of any bootie shape you like. I like this tried and true shape with a 1 x 1 rib cuff, which really stay on little feet, no matter how hard they kick.

I make the inner ear & outer ear separately in garter stitch. I like to play with the colors and mix them up. Then I stitch them together. Then I sew all the ears on at once time. It takes some time, yes, but the effort is totally worth it. Just LOVE these!

It may be time to make an pair in adult size.

Hop on!

Poncho weather!

Well, it is almost poncho weather. Today was a little nippy, but little miss O has broken out one of hers and was rocking it yesterday. So it's time to break out the collection. Yes, she has a collection of ponchos.

Here's one of the ponchos. The picture is old, but will have to do, since O barely stops moving about these days to take a non-blurry photo. Too busy perfecting her handstands and walkovers. I wish she could exercise for me too while she is at it...but that's another topic for another day ; )

Had intended to sell this one, but I asked O to try it on for me. And once it was on, it was hers. I'm happy with the decision though, could she look any happier? She is self styled by the way. She knows how to put a look together, don't you think?

I did make a few others that happily I was able to put into my line, Loops by Keri, sold at Rexer-Parkes.

For those of you that haven't been to Rexer-Parkes, it is a fantastically edited boutique located at 35 Gerard Street in Huntington, New York that carries all levels of labels, so you can find the perfect jeans, a fantastic fitting short (yes! they exist! and Rexer-Parkes stocks them every year! Sanctuary are my favs and I know there was a recent shipment...), perfect basic-but-not-boring tops for everyday and that special dress you need for that night out. Not to mention the perfect bags and jewelry and shoes to go with... All in one place!

To further enhance their offerings, Rexer-Parkes carries Loops by Keri hand knits for babies, toddlers and children. If you are in need of a baby gift, the perfect hat for your child or a special piece for that little one in your life, look no further! All items are designed and hand knit by me in New York.

In store now are some ponchos perfect for this time of year!

This is perfect for running around, year round! ok, not in summer, but the other 3 seasons for sure! It is hand knit by me in the softest hand-dyed merino wool yarn, spun by a group of artisan women in Uruguay. O has one of these too (of course) and she has been wearing it for 3+ years now and it still looks great on her, so it's a worthy investment piece! Love the hood and fringe!

Super soft pima cotton in classic pink with lavender trim. Perfect for indoor sweater use or outdoors.

This one is a yummy cotton and soya blend. Love the orange trim! It just pops!

These two are a beautiful hand dyed wool that softens with each wearing. Perfect for indoor use and out!

For those of you that cannot make it to Huntington, do not despair! You can shop from home. In your jammies even. I won't tell.
 http://rexer-parkes.myshopify.com/collections/children

I am going to go dig out my poncho now. It's a yummy turtleneck in a handspun thick & thin hand-dyed merino wool of greens with pops of blues. I must say, it's poncho perfection.

I promise to take a picture of that soon.

And yes, I do custom orders if you need a bigger size or different color...just ask. Everyone needs a poncho!

Poncho on!
